About Us

At Harmattan AI, we are a next-generation defense prime building autonomous and scalable defense systems. Driven by rigorous engineering developments of new defense products based on recent robotics and AI developments, we are on a steep growth trajectory. If you are interested in a career in a highly technical environment, thrive on pushing boundaries, and want to achieve ambitious goals, we would love to hear from you.

About the role

During this internship, you will play a key role in designing and developing an in-house DDR4 memory controller IP, offering an alternative to vendor-provided IP cores. As an intern, you will tackle various technical challenges, from writing VHDL code to targeting a specific FPGA platform and interfacing with DDR4 memory modules. You will be responsible for developing and testing the IP, ensuring it meets performance and reliability standards through simulation and embedded implementation.

What you'll do

  • Understand DDR4 memory protocol and timing constraints.

  • Design a functional DDR4 controller architecture.

  • Implement the controller in VHDL at RTL level.

  • Integrate basic ECC mechanisms into the controller to detect and correct memory errors.

  • Simulate and validate the design using test benches.

  • Benchmark performance against vendor-provided IP.

  • Document all work performed, including methodologies, results and conclusions.

What you'll gain from this internship

This internship is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in digital design, including:

  • Hardware architecture design: learn how to break down a memory controller into reusable, efficient blocks.

  • RTL coding in VHDL: work on real production-quality code.

  • Simulation and verification: develop test benches and validate the design through simulations.

  • Hardware validation: bring your design to life on an FPGA board.

  • Lab work: perform real hardware testing and debugging using oscilloscopes.

By the end of the internship, you will have built a complete and functioning IP core and validated it both in simulation and in the lab.

Candidate requirements

  • Educational background: A strong academic record in Digital Electronics. Solid understanding of RTL design principles.

  • Technical skills: Experience with VHDL and Python.

  • Mindset: You are curious to learn, autonomous and able to take initiative.

  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication. You are able to clearly articulate and present your work.

We look forward to hearing how you can help shape the future of autonomous defense systems at Harmattan AI.
