Perplexity is looking for an engineering manager to join our small team revolutionizing the way people search and interact with the internet. You will be responsible for leading web engineering.

Engineers at Perplexity design, create, and ship systems that power product experiences across a growing stack. To scale, we are investing in a growing web engineering team that will be responsible for building highly scalable and performant systems, collaborating with design, platform engineering, AI and infra teams. Perplexity is growing quickly both in volume and number of use cases, so it will be critical to be able to manage complex and parallel projects.

Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering leadership on the web and adjacent layers of a rapidly growing product.
  • Set standards for scalable UI and component library systems.
  • Set standards for reliability, code quality, UX quality, and performance.
  • Oversee recruiting, onboarding, and maintain standards for a growing team.
  • Work closely with design, full stack, AI, infrastructure, and platform teams.
  • Develop rigorous interview pipelines and work closely with recruiting to source candidates.

Qualifications

  • Ability to design reusable and scalable systems and processes.
  • Ability to constructively identify and tackle technical debt.
  • Ability to quickly and cleanly resolve engineering blockers.
  • Strong organizational skills for managing and delivering parallel technical projects.
  • Experience working with multiple small teams of engineers.
  • Experience leveraging the right combination of third-party and in-house solutions.
  • Familiarity with AI/ML capabilities and limitations.
  • Exceptional communication skills.
  • 8+ years of engineering experience.
  • 4+ years of engineering management experience.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Next.js and Tailwind.
  • Experience with mobile applications that use webviews.
  • Experience with Python and LLM APIs.
  • Experience with AWS and Cloudflare cloud infrastructure.

Our cash compensation range for this role is $240,000 - $300,000.

Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors, including, experience and expertise, and may vary from the amounts listed above.
 
Equity: In addition to the base salary, equity may be part of the total compensation package.
