The Role
A Forward-deployed Engineer (FDE) interfaces directly with our customers and solves their pain points through effective implementation of Automat’s technology. Using our tools, you will design the automation stack that our customers rely on for their core business operations and drive their topline revenue.
This role is inherently cross-functional - you’ll often act as the bridge between product, engineering, and customer teams. It is as important to be comfortable with sales conversations and identifying upsell opportunities as it is to understand Automat’s suite of AI-powered agentic automation and document processing. As an FDE, you will apply creativity and problem-solving to help customers drive real-world business impact through automation.
What you’ll do
Work across the stack and be multi-disciplinary
Wear multiple hats; one day, you will prototype a new stealth browsing technique, and the next, optimize a pipeline for intelligent document understanding
Think high levels by aligning automation strategies with the goals of the entire organization
Think creatively about how autonomous agents can reshape business operations, infrastructure, and edge-case handling
What drives you

Supporting customer pain points and demoing product capabilities
Collaborating in teams of both technical and non-technical members in a dynamic environment
Analyzing and solving difficult technical problems in AI, data structures, and other technical tools
What’s in your toolbox
Excellent communication and collaboration skills
Customer-facing technical experience (e.g., sales engineering or pre-sales) and strong interpersonal skills
The ability to work across cloud platforms (GCP preferred)
Familiarity with LLMs is a plus.
Full-stack engineering experience, especially with Node.js, TypeScript, REST APIs, frontend frameworks, non-relational databases (e.g., Firebase), and tools like Docker and Playwright.
