About Us

Black Forest Labs is a cutting-edge startup pioneering generative image and video models. Our team, which invented Stable Diffusion, Stable Video Diffusion, and FLUX.1, is currently looking for a Product Legal Counsel you will focus on helping us navigate the fast-changing AI legal landscape, working alongside multiple functions within the business to make sure we remain compliant whilst remaining to be one of the most innovative companies in the space. 

The role: 

• Be the go-to legal partner for product – work side-by-side with PMs, engineers, and researchers as they design and launch new  features.
  
  
• Decode the regulatory maze – keep us ahead of evolving AI laws (think EU AI Act, U.S. guidance, global standards) and translate them into practical steps for the team.
  
  
• Build guardrails – design policies, playbooks, and compliance frameworks that help us scale safely without slowing us down.
• Spot the risks – advise on data use, IP, bias, privacy, transparency, and all the fun challenges that come with generative AI.
  
  
• Be a culture carrier – help the company live our values around responsible AI and ethical innovation.

Ideal Experience: 

• 5+ years of legal experience, ideally with a mix of tech/product counseling and compliance/regulatory work.
  
  
• Experience advising on new AI/ML technologies (bonus points for hands-on exposure to generative AI products), privacy, and consumer protection issues.
  
  
• Comfort navigating IP, regulatory, and platform liability issues.
  
  
• A pragmatic mindset—able to balance risk with speed and innovation.
  
  
• Someone who thrives in ambiguity, likes rolling up their sleeves, and wants to help shape both product and company culture.
  
  

Nice to Have:

• In-house startup experience.
  
  
• Built or scaled legal compliance programs for new tech.
  
  
• Experience with platform regulation.
  
  
• Genuine excitement about the potential (and risks) of generative AI.
