The person in this role will bring their unique perspective to our product development process by contributing to ideation and defining the solution space. Based on their deep grasp of ML/DL/NLP concepts, the Applied Researcher will define the approach to solving the complex problems. The role will also build the intelligent functionality of our product offerings.

Your Impact
As an Applied Research Scientist, you will have the opportunity to harness your passion for building exciting new product offerings that will impact millions of lives. To do this, you'll need to stay up-to-date on the quickly evolving field of NLP while also focusing on building production systems.
In this role, you will:
Develop state-of-the-art tools for correcting, improving, and enhancing written English using various NLP, ML, and DL technologies.
Productize and ship these features into Superhuman's product offerings, which millions of users use daily.
Stay up-to-date with the latest research trends that could improve our product.
Contribute to the research strategy and technical culture of the company.
Attract professionals in the industry to build a best-in-class research team that creates a state-of-the-art writing and communication assistant.
Qualifications
Strong theoretical foundation in ML/DL algorithms and methodologies.
Minimum 6–7 years of industry experience in researching and developing ML/DL technologies for real-world products.
Additional 4–5 years of research experience in an academic environment (PhD or equivalent research background preferred).
Deep experience in Natural Language Processing (NLP), Generative AI, and Large Language Models (LLMs).
Proven track record of applying ML/DL algorithms effectively to NLP tasks.
Strong research mentality with a math-oriented mindset and ability to innovate in cutting-edge areas.
Proficiency in at least one modern programming language (preferably Python).
Demonstrated ability to translate research into scalable, production-ready solutions.
Excellent command of spoken and written English, knowledge of additional languages is a plus.
Has a demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal guidance, proactively manages tasks and priorities across multiple projects, analyzes and executes work efficiently, collaborates effectively with cross-functional teams, and thrives in fast-paced, results-driven environments.
