Overview

Handshake is recruiting First-Line Supervisors of Food Preparation and Serving Worker Professionals to contribute to an hourly, temporary AI research project—but there’s no AI experience needed. In this program, you’ll leverage your professional experience to evaluate what AI models produce in your field, assess content related to your field of work, and deliver clear, structured feedback that strengthens the model’s understanding of your workplace tasks and language. The Handshake AI opportunity runs year-round, with project opportunities opening periodically across different areas of expertise.

Details

  • The position is remote and asynchronous; work independently from wherever you are.

  • The hours are flexible, with no minimum commitment, but most average 5-20 hrs

  • The work includes developing prompts for AI models that reflect your field, and then evaluating responses.

  • You’ll learn new skills and contribute to how AI is used in your field

  • Your placement into a project will be dependent on project availability—if you apply now and can’t work on this project, more will be available soon.

Qualifications

  • You have at least 4 years of professional experience in one or more of the following types of work.

  • The examples below reflect the types of real-world responsibilities that you might have had in your role that will give you the context needed to evaluate and train high-quality AI models

    • Resolve customer complaints regarding food service.

    • Train workers in food preparation and in service, sanitation, and safety procedures.

    • Assign duties, responsibilities, and work stations to employees in accordance with work requirements.

    • Present bills and accept payments.

    • Perform various financial activities, such as cash handling, deposit preparation, and payroll.

    • Supervise and participate in kitchen and dining area cleaning activities.

    • Recommend measures for improving work procedures and worker performance to increase service quality and enhance job safety.

    • Specify food portions and courses, production and time sequences, and workstation and equipment arrangements.

    • Control inventories of food, equipment, smallware, and liquor, and report shortages to designated personnel.

    • Observe and evaluate workers and work procedures to ensure quality standards and service, and complete disciplinary write-ups.

    • Analyze operational problems, such as theft and wastage, and establish procedures to alleviate these problems.

    • Inspect supplies, equipment, and work areas to ensure efficient service and conformance to standards.

    • Greet and seat guests, and present menus and wine lists.

    • Evaluate new products for usefulness and suitability.

    • Compile and balance cash receipts at the end of the day or shift.

    • Forecast staff, equipment, and supply requirements based on a master menu.

    • Assess nutritional needs of patients, plan special menus, supervise the assembly of diet trays, and oversee the delivery of food trolleys to hospital patients.

    • Record production, operational, and personnel data on specified forms.

    • Perform personnel actions such as hiring and firing staff, providing orientation and training, and creating work schedules or organizing time sheets.

    • Estimate ingredients and supplies required to prepare a recipe.

    • Purchase or requisition supplies and equipment to ensure quality and timely service delivery.

    • Perform food preparation and serving duties, such as carving meat, preparing flambé dishes, or serving wine and liquor.

    • Schedule parties and take reservations.

    • Develop departmental objectives, budgets, policies, procedures, and strategies.

    • Conduct meetings and collaborate with other personnel for menu planning, serving arrangements, and related details.

    • Develop equipment maintenance schedules and arrange for repairs.

  • You’re able to participate in asynchronous work in partnership with leading AI labs.
