You'll be the go-to person for untangling complex failures in real time, designing tools that turn chaos into clarity, and helping us shift from reactive to proactive operations. This is a high-impact, high-trust role where you’ll shape how reliability is done - reducing incident load, building internal tooling, and directly improving developer focus and system uptime. Extreme Ownership We take full responsibility for our work, outcomes, and team success. No excuses, no blame-shifting — if something needs fixing, we own it and make it better. This means stepping up, even when it’s not “your job.” If a ball is dropped, we pick it up. If a customer is unhappy, we fix it. If a process is broken, we redesign it. We don’t wait for someone else to solve it — we lead with accountability and expect the same from those around us. Craftsmanship Putting care and intention into every task, striving for excellence, and taking deep ownership of the quality and outcome of your work. Craftsmanship means never settling for “just fine.” We sweat the details because details compound. Whether it’s a product feature, an internal doc, or a sales call — we treat it as a reflection of our standards. We aim to deliver jaw-dropping customer experiences by being curious, meticulous, and proud of what we build — even when nobody’s watching. We are “majos”
Be friendly & have fun with your coworkers. Always be genuine & honest, but kind. “Majo” is our way of saying: be a good human. Be approachable, helpful, and warm. We’re building something ambitious, and it’s easier (and more fun) when we enjoy the ride together. We give feedback with kindness, challenge each other with respect, and celebrate wins together without ego. Urgency with Focus
Create the highest impact in the shortest amount of time. Move fast, but in the right direction. We operate with speed because time is our most limited resource. But speed without focus is chaos. We prioritize ruthlessly, act decisively, and stay aligned. We aim for high leverage: the biggest results from the simplest, smartest actions. We’re running a high-speed marathon — not a sprint with no strategy. Talent Density and Meritocracy
Hire only people who can raise the average; ‘exceptional performance is the passing grade.’ Ability trumps seniority. We believe the best teams are built on talent density — every hire should raise the bar. We reward contribution, not titles or tenure. We give ownership to those who earn it, and we all hold each other to a high standard. A-players want to work with other A-players — that’s how we win. First-Principles Thinking
Strip a problem to physics-level facts, ignore industry dogma, rebuild the solution from scratch. We don’t copy-paste solutions. We go back to basics, ask why things are the way they are, and rebuild from the ground up if needed. This mindset pushes us to innovate, challenge stale assumptions, and move faster than incumbents. It’s how we build what others think is impossible. The personal data provided in your application and during the selection process will be processed by Happyrobot, Inc., acting as Data Controller.By sending us your CV, you consent to the processing of your personal data for the purpose of evaluating and selecting you as a candidate for the position. Location: London (In-Office, 4+ days/week) Team: Executive | Reports to: CTO Welcome to the video first world From your everyday PowerPoint presentations to Hollywood movies, AI will transform the way we create and consume content. Today, people want to watch and listen, not read. This is true both at home and at work. If you’re reading this and nodding, check out our brand video. Despite the clear preference for video, communication and knowledge sharing in the business environment are still dominated by text, largely because high-quality video production remains complex and challenging to scale—until now. Meet Synthesia We're on a mission to make video easy for everyone. Born in an AI lab, our AI video communications platform simplifies the entire video production process, making it easy for everyone, regardless of skill level, to create, collaborate, and share high-quality videos. Whether it's for delivering essential training to employees and customers or marketing products and services, Synthesia enables large organizations to communicate and share knowledge through video quickly and efficiently. We’re trusted by leading brands such as Heineken, Zoom, Xerox, McDonald’s and more. Read stories from happy customers and what 1,200+ people say on G2. In February 2024, G2 named us as the fastest growing company in the world. Today, we're at a $2.1bn valuation and we recently raised our Series D. This brings our total funding to over $330M from top-tier investors, including Accel, Nvidia, Kleiner Perkins, Google and top founders and operators including Stripe, Datadog, Miro, Webflow, and Facebook. The Role We’re hiring a Technical Associate to support our Chief Technology Officer (CTO) in scaling our technical organization. Orchestrate Cross-Functional Execution: Keep the trains running across product, engineering, data, and research initiatives. Communicate Clearly: Write internal strategy docs, synthesize technical inputs, and help prep comms for leadership and board-level discussions. Influence Without Authority: Work with senior ICs and leaders to keep momentum high, unblock progress, and align priorities. Be a Force Multiplier: Identify friction, fill gaps, and ensure the CTO is operating at their highest leverage. What You’ll Need 4–8+ years in product, engineering, strategy, operations, or consulting (startups or high-growth tech preferred). A strong technical understanding - enough to engage productively with engineers, researchers, and product leaders. Proven experience managing complex projects with multiple stakeholders. Clear, structured communication skills - both verbal and written. Bias toward action. You get things done, even when the path is murky. High trust, low ego. You know when to lead and when to listen. Exceptional prioritization and time management. You’re comfortable juggling a lot. Bonus Points Experience in a Chief of Staff, TA, product strategy, or hybrid product/ops role. Previous work with CTOs, technical founders, or exec teams. Background in AI, dev tools, or deep tech. What Success Looks Like 30 days: You’ve built trust with the CTO, identified priority workstreams, and started owning small initiatives. 90 days: You’re running multiple high-velocity projects and helping keep the org aligned across product + tech. 6–12 months: You’re a trusted right-hand to the CTO and a visible operator across the technical leadership team. Location This role is based in our London office, with 4+ days/week in person expected. You’ll work closely with our technical and executive teams in a fast-paced, high-context environment. Why You’ll Love It Here At Synthesia, you’ll move fast, learn fast, and help build a category-defining company. We value ownership, clarity, and momentum - and you’ll be empowered to drive all three. Maincode is building sovereign AI models in Australia. We are training foundation models from scratch, designing new reasoning architectures, and deploying them on state-of-the-art GPU clusters. This is not fine-tuning someone else’s work. This is building from first principles. As an AI/ML Engineer, you’ll be part of the team that makes this real. You’ll work on both sides of the problem: how models are trained and how they run in the world. You’ll design and build the systems that power large-scale training runs and efficient inference. You’ll work closely with our AI Researchers to implement the latest algorithms and ideas. This is a deep engineering role. You’ll be writing a lot of code, instrumenting systems, optimizing performance, and debugging weird, messy edge cases in distributed training and model serving. If you love figuring out how foundation models really work under the hood, this is your team. What you’ll doBuild and scale training pipelines for sovereign foundation models like large language models and other architecturesDesign efficient inference systems that run these models in real-world environmentsOptimize data pipelines, tokenization, batch prep, and distributed training at multi-node scaleBuild deep observability into training and inference, improving performance, correctness, and efficiencyDebug and troubleshoot the hardest parts of model training and deployment, including distributed failures, GPU bugs, data inconsistencies, and scaling limitsWork closely with AI Researchers to translate cutting-edge algorithms into working systemsEstablish strong ModelOps practices to ensure reproducibility, reliability, and continuous improvement across the full lifecycle of foundation models, from initial experiments to production deploymentWho you arePassionate about how models are built, trained, and run, especially large-scale foundation modelsDriven by curiosity about model internals, training dynamics, and system-level performanceExcited to work across both training and inference, not just one side of the ML stackSkilled in Python and ML frameworks like PyTorch or JAX. Familiarity with distributed compute (CUDA, Triton, NCCL, etc.) is a bonus but not requiredConstantly learning, whether it’s reading open-source repos, replicating research ideas, or designing your own tools to explore a problemHands-on and determined. You like writing code, running experiments, and figuring things outMotivated to help build sovereign AI capability here in AustraliaWhy MaincodeWe are a small team building some of the most advanced AI systems in Australia. We are creating new foundation models from scratch, not just using what’s already out there. We operate our own GPU clusters, run large-scale training, and work closely across research and engineering to push the frontier of what’s possible. You'll be surrounded by people who:Care about model internals, not just outputsBuild things that work, at scaleTake pride in learning, experimenting, and shippingWant to help Australia build independent, world-class AI systems
