Hi, we're The Browser Company 👋 and we're building a better way to use the internet.
Browsers are unique in that they are one of the only pieces of software that you share with your parents as well as your kids. Which makes sense, they're our doorway to the most important things — through them we socialize with loved ones, work on our passion projects, and explore our curiosities. But on their own, they don’t actually do a whole lot, they’re kind of just there. They don’t help us organize our messy lives or make it easier to compose our ideas. We believe that the browser could do so much more — it can empower and support the amazing things we do on the internet. That’s why we’re building one: a browser that can help us grow, create, and stay curious.
To accomplish this lofty task, we’re building a diverse team of people from different backgrounds and experiences. This isn’t optional, it’s crucial to our mission, as we need a wide range of perspectives to challenge our assumptions and shape our browser through a bold, creative lens. With that in mind, we especially encourage women, people of color, and others from historically marginalized groups to apply.About The RoleAs a Staff Software Engineer on our AI Foundations team at the Browser Company, you’ll create the systems, tools and infrastructure that that unlock rich product experiences in Dia as we scale. You'll build the architecture that powers Dia's AI capabilities, enabling our team to prototype and ship innovative browser automation and AI-driven features rapidly. You’ll build the core systems that make our AI assistant accurate, trustworthy, and fast. The AI Foundations team owns the evaluation and prompt infrastructure, client and platform integrations, and the service‑level orchestration that powers product quality and iteration speed. You’ll create the tooling that lets anyone measure quality, catch regressions before they ship, and safely evolve prompts and models over time.Overall you will...Own and evolve the AI Foundations systems that integrate LLM outputs into product experiences, partnering closely with ML and Product Engineers to turn model output into reliable, production-quality features.Build and operate infrastructure for evals and prompt engineering, making it simple for teams to author, run, and interpret evals while safely versioning and rolling out prompts via tools, direct feedback, and product integrations.Orchestrate and optimize LLM usage across the service layer, standardizing formats, streaming, error handling, and cost controls, and closing the loop between evals, auto-tuning, and real-world performance.Partner across product and infrastructure teams to define requirements, SLAs, and APIs for AI features, turn dogfooding and live usage into evaluable scenarios, and build clear workflows and documentation that help teams ship confidently.Elevate engineering quality and team impact by leading high-impact projects, improving reliability and observability across systems, mentoring engineers, and owning planning and on-call for AI Foundations services as needed.Technical Projects You’ll Shape With Us…Evals Platform & Playground: Build a unified experience for editing prompts, running queries, and launching evals, with telemetry, dashboards, and alerts to monitor performance and catch regressions early.Diagnostics & Auto-Tuning Systems: Develop tooling that surfaces expected vs. actual behavior, clusters failures, and automatically refines prompts to improve routing, tool use, and response quality.Data & Observability Infrastructure: Connect evals to dogfooding data for reproducible playback and analysis, enabling insight into behavior of our complex AI systems.Qualifications6+ years of experience building and leading high-craft software systems, with deep expertise in backend or infrastructure engineering.Hands-on experience building with LLMs and integrating AI outputs into production systems; curiosity to go deep on how models work without doing model training.Proven ability to design, ship, and operate large-scale, reliable systems that support rapid experimentation and iteration. You've worked on large, complex codebases and understand how to improve systems to make them easier to understand, debug, and maintain.Strong technical leadership and mentoring experience; you elevate engineering quality through thoughtful code reviews, clear communication, and pragmatic execution. You’re pragmatic, motivated by nebulous problems, and excited to work in a startup environment with quick product validation cycles. We’re primarily focused on hiring in North American time zones and require that folks have 4+ hours of overlap time with team members in Eastern Time Zone.

About Us
At Encord, we're building the AI infrastructure of the future. The biggest challenge AI companies face today is not half as glamorous as the outside world may think: it's all about data quality. In fact, the success of any AI application today relies on the quality of a model's training data — and for 95% of teams, this essential step is both the most costly, and the most time-consuming, in getting their product to market.
As ex-computer scientists, physicists, and quants, we felt first-hand how the lack of tools to prepare quality training data was impeding the progress of building AI. AI today is what the early days of computing or the internet were like, where the potential of the technology is clear, but the tools and processes surrounding it are still primitive, preventing the next generation of applications. This is why we started Encord.
We are a talented and ambitious team of 100+, working at the cutting edge of computer vision and deep learning, backed by top investors, including CRV and Y Combinator, leading industry executives like Luc Vincent, former VP of AI at Meta, and other top Bay Area leaders in AI. We are one the fastest growing companies in our space, and consistently rated as the best tool in the market by our customers. We have big plans ahead and are looking for a rockstar Sales Engineer to join us in building our GTM team.

You can confidently explain complex technical topics to both highly technical engineers and senior decision makers.-Strong technical proficiency with at least one scripting language (Python preferred), working with SDKs/APIs, and an understanding of cloud infrastructure (GCP, AWS, Azure).-Ability to translate value between technical and commercial stakeholders both with prospects and within Encord.-A deal-driven attitude and commercial mindset, with the resilience to thrive in a fast-paced sales environment and work well under pressure.-A "hacker mindset" – you are a creative problem-solver who can quickly build scripts, tools, or integration workflows to overcome a prospect's technical hurdles during an evaluation.-Beneficial: previous experience in a fast-paced B2B startup, especially in the AI space.

About Us
At Encord, we're building the AI infrastructure of the future.
The Role As an AI Project Manager you will play a critical role in managing and optimizing data annotation and machine learning workflows for our clients.
